PURPOSE

Under general supervision, assist with program operations, providing direct and indirect clerical, administrative, and client support necessary to meet program objectives.    

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Program Coordinator
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: N/A

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide full range of reception services. Respond to requests for information from the public or employees by answering the phone, greeting the public, mailing program information, and making referrals

Provide full range of clerical duties; assist with updating and maintaining databases, receive applications, copy documents, collate, assemble, and distribute materials

Perform data entry tasks for which there is a moderate variation of formats and procedures

Check and correct entry for input errors

Gather and record statistical information for reporting purposes

Type or produce reports or correspondence utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and other business software

Assist in scheduling and general set up for meetings and community events

Assist with homework coaching for youth

Assist with youth group activities

Assist with special projects as assigned

Other related duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Ability to speak, write, listen, and communicate effectively

Meet and deal effectively with the general public, clients, and co-workers to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Ability to read, comprehend, explain, and apply written procedures and oral instructions

Working knowledge of business practices, correspondence and typing formats, including correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Working knowledge of computer software applications including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, other database systems, and basic office equipment

Ability to prioritize and work independently to perform clerical assignments with minimal direction

Ability to build positive & motivational relationships with youth

Understanding or willingness to learn about the effects of generational trauma

Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

High School Diploma or Equivalent 

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

One year of experience working with youth

Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute

Valid Driver’s License

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

Associates Degree 

One year of clerical experience 

Knowledge of Alaska Native History & Social Justice Issues

Experience working with Alaska Native youth and families

Knowledge of Child Development

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.  Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
