PURPOSE

The Incumbent will provide quality customer service and demonstrated knowledge of coffee and tea products and equipment. The lead barista will serve products with attention towards customer service. Incumbent is responsible for making a difference to our customers by providing them our premium coffees and teas. Lead barista will build customer relationships and foster a positive and friendly store environment. Lead Barista will provide technical guidance to new team members and assist in training.

Reports To: Café Manager (Retail Associate III)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Inform customers on the superior quality of Company products and services
  • Inform the manager on duty of any operational inconsistencies
  • Offer positive and/or constructive feedback to team members on the quality and consistency of products and service
  • Be knowledgeable on each food offering (attributes, ingredients, preparation) through coordination with Café Manager and Chef
  • Sell and serve baked goods and miscellaneous food items to customers
  • Sell and serve products to customers in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Educate self on whole bean knowledge, coffee blends, tea products, bakery items, coffee brewing, and blended products
  • Participate in all sales promotions effectively and efficiently
  • Safely handle all hot and cold drinks during drink preparation
  • Maintain highest quality and consistent product standards
  • Follow Company drink recipes and procedures
  • Run errands, when needed
  • Work special events, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices
  • Good customer service skills to manage multiple orders in a busy retail atmosphere
  • Ability to lead, communicate and train fellow team members
  • Ability to provide efficient and friendly service


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • 6+ months working in a specialty coffee environment
  • Register and cash handling experience
  • Point of sales (POS) experience


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years’ experience in food-service industry
  • Strong technical barista skills in all areas of drink preparation
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment


UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

Requires long hours of standing and moving. Must be able to carry trays of food, dishes, and glassware weighing up to 25 pounds. Exposure to high temperatures, steam, and equipment with hot surfaces.
