The Cultural Heritage & Education (CHE) Program Specialist will help establish and provide cultural heritage and language education opportunities such as classes, workshops, events, and after school activities for tribal citizens.

Reports To: Manager
Supervises: Up to 2 FTE
Liaison To: Employees, clients, Southeast communities

• Assist with planning, organization, coordination, and/or hosting of cultural education opportunities, programming, and events
• Actively participate in routine meetings and committee/coalition meetings with partners that provide education and cultural programming or events
• Maintain partnerships within Juneau and throughout Southeast Alaska that support collaborative relationships and culturally informed programming
• Coordinate internally with department staff to assist in providing cultural heritage education opportunities for staff and clients
• Collaborate with Communications department for promotion of opportunities for cultural programming
• Create and conduct surveys to evaluate and inform program success and effectiveness and community needs and desired goals
• Ability to travel including but not limited to ferries, and small airplanes
• Create and maintain both paper and computerized file management systems
• Maintain strict confidentiality
• May be responsible for the supervision of up to 2 full time technician or clerical level positions including but not limited to: hiring, monitoring, coaching, staff development, evaluations, dispute resolution, progressive discipline, and termination
• Other duties as assigned

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and basic computer skills
• Ability to review, analyze, and interpret information from multiple sources
• Ability to develop and implement program plans
• Able to manage priorities in a rapidly changing environment
• Familiarity with finding information from multiple sources including statutes, regulations, reports, and key word searches
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Supports a culture of inclusion and diversity
• Knowledge of Tlingit, Haida, and/or Tsimshian cultures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Associates Degree
• 2 years’ related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Bachelor’s degree or a combination of relevant education, training, and experience
• Valid Driver’s License

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
