PURPOSE
Under direct supervision of Child & Family Clinician, the incumbent will provide access to and deliver culturally responsive behavioral services, within a defined scope of practice, to tribal citizens, including, but not limited to, prevention, early intervention, case management, aftercare and follow-up for individuals and families impacted by a variety of behavioral issues.

Reports To: Child & Family Clinician

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide community residents (individuals and families) with basic education about mental health, and substance use disorders
• With direct assistance and oversight from the supervisor, screen and/or assess individuals for mental health and substance use concerns
• Interact and coordinate professional activities with other community-based providers, to help provide early intervention, case management, aftercare, and follow-up for individuals and families impacted
• Coordinate school activities
• Collect data for assessment regarding nature and quantity of community needs for counseling services
• Document behavioral services records timely
• Assist in case management
• Collaborate with support agencies
• Identify crisis and report to licensed clinician
• Respond to staff needs and maintain office equipment (as well as the overall organization and functioning of the general office area and community room), trouble shoot technical and office space problems, and request orders for office supplies
• Provide and maintain accurate documentation in the client health record and appropriate use of different documentation format
• Travel to rural communities
• Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Knowledge of ethical considerations of helping professions
• Strong communication skills working with diverse populations
• Work from a strength-based approach
• Must be able to maintain a personal and professional code of ethics
• Ability to work independently and follow verbal and written directions
• Knowledge of communication skills, both oral and written
• Maintain personal and professional boundaries
• Knowledge of computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite
• Willing to pursue education through on-the-job training, and specific certification opportunities
• Able to learn applicable Federal, State, and Tribal law, regulations, rules, policies, and processes
• Knowledge of Tlingit & Haida, and Alaska Native cultures


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate I
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 3 years clerical experience
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License

Associate II
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
• 5 years clerical experience
• 2 years supervisory experience
• Valid Alaska Driver’s License


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Behavioral Health Aid I or II Certification


UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
