PURPOSE
The Media & Communications Specialist will conceptualize, process, and produce high-quality multimedia content, including video presentations, photography, audio recordings, animations, and interactive multimedia collateral for a variety of platforms and audiences. The incumbent will build collaborative relationships with the Tribe’s management team to document tribal events, produce podcasts, and create and manage content for the Tribe’s official website.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Communications Director
Supervises: N/A
Liaison To: All Departments

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Collaborate with Communications team to plan, script, and storyboard video/multimedia projects to showcase the Tribe’s programs and services
• Manage lighting, audio, video, and relevant peripherals for production activities
• Capture audio, video and still photographs for content development to market programs and services and document tribal activities
• Perform advanced video editing, including meta tagging/metadata
• Develop animated graphics using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Animate CC
• Assist in the development of a tribal podcast series
• Assist in maintaining the Tribe’s official website
• Maintain current knowledge in multimedia technologies, video/audio productions, web development, digital photography, and related computer technologies
• Troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance on multimedia equipment
• Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) apps and Microsoft Office/365
• Ability to produce high quality pre-production video, lighting, shooting, editing, sound, and post-production content
• Ability to work effectively with managers, employees, tribal leaders, and tribal citizens
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to diagnose and resolve basic technical issues with media equipment
• Able to read, understand, and apply information in technical manuals
• Experience in podcast development
• Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures
• Detail oriented
• Positive attitude and a team player
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Ability to work an adjusted schedule as needed to accommodate evening and weekend events
• Ability to travel as needed to document events and capture digital assets


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Associate’s degree in Multimedia or related field
• Proficient in Adobe CC (Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition)
• Two years’ experience in multimedia or related field
• Valid driver’s license

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia or related field
• Proficient in Adobe CC (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator)
• Drone operator experience

 

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.  Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
