PURPOSE
The Human Resources (HR) Specialist will assist in the administration and coordination of day to day activities associated with employee relations, performance management, staffing, employee records, compensation, onboarding, recognition, employee assistance and benefits administration. The incumbent will provide support in the overall processes in the Human Resources department.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports To: Human Resources Director
Supervises: None
Liaison To: Employees


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Prepare and review compensation and benefit package options
• Administer health, retirement and life insurance programs
• Implement training and development plans
• Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status
• Maintain organizational charts and detailed job descriptions along with salary records
• Forecast hiring needs and ensure recruitment process runs smoothly
• Assist in developing and implementing HR policies
• Process employee inquiries and respond timely
• Assist with open enrollment process
• Assist in facilitating benefits fair
• Plan quarterly and annual performance review sessions
• Provide necessary reports for allocation/billing charges

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
• Maintain current knowledge of employee benefits options
• Remain current on applicable laws
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to work independently and prioritize workload
• Ability to organize, plan, and maintain confidential records
• Ability to search, select, compile, and summarize data and information
• Ability to compare data for completeness, identify any discrepancies or inaccuracies, and make the necessary corrections


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Associate Degree
• 2 years related experience


Substitution for Associate
• 4 years HR experience


UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS
The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs. Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
