The Data Specialist is responsible for data entry within Head Start database and other specified record-keeping and reporting systems. Incumbent will ensure database system is up to date and perform periodic audits to ensure accuracy of electronic program records, develop program reports, oversee current and archived program files, assist in general office duties and other projects as assigned.

• Remain current on federal and state grant requirements and all applicable policies and procedures
• Ensure data is collected and securely maintained in accordance with confidentiality requirements
• Oversee maintenance of current and archived program files and binders
• Oversee periodic program data audits to ensure records are current and complete
• Assist in review of annual updates to Child Plus database
• Develop and distribute all required monthly, quarterly, and annual data reports
• Assist data management team in developing workflow charts to create data entry efficiencies
• Conduct regular supervisory meetings, complete performance evaluations, and create and implement a professional development plan
• Provide training and technical support to staff on use of databases and producing reports
• Collaborate with management team members to provide technical assistance on data management
• Participate in regular staff and supervisory meetings, and all required training
• Other duties as assigned

• Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite
• Able to create documents, reports, and spreadsheets
• Ability to troubleshoot basic computer application situations involving Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and Adobe
• Supervisory skills including ability to train, assist, and oversee daily tasks of Data Technician
• Ability to assist and provide basic computer instruction
• Detail oriented and demonstrate good proofreading skills
• Ability to read, comprehend, and follow established policies and procedures
• Ability to multi-task while remaining organized including managing various deadlines for reports
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Demonstrate sound judgment, work well independently, and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality of program information
• Experience in auditing electronic data information and reports
• Ability and willingness to be self-directed in problem solving, decision-making and performing basic assignments with little or no direct supervision
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills including ability to effectively communicate in cross-cultural situations and establish good rapport with people of diverse cultures
• Knowledge of office procedures and terminology
• Familiar with administrative and clerical procedures and systems including file management, record retention, and form design
• Excellent customer service skills
• Operate general office equipment

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• AA in Computer Science or related field
• 2 years related work experience

• High School Diploma
• 4 years related experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)
• Experience working with Child Plus database
• Valid AK Driver’s License


The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.  Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
