Incumbent will facilitate planning and development for the Youth Healing to Wellness Court program through the Tribal Court system.  With oversight from the Court Administrator, the Healing to Wellness Specialist will have duties that require excellent writing and communication skills: development of protocols, assessing needs, relationship building with internal and external partners. 



Reports To: Court Administrator

Supervises: Clerical Staff – Youth Healing to Wellness

Liaison To:  Department, Tribal Programs, External Partners & other Southeast Tribes



  • Work collaboratively with the Healing to Wellness multi-disciplinary advisory team and Court staff in the development of programming for at-risk youth who are struggling with drug or alcohol issues
  • Develop community resources for youth and their families
  • Participate in relevant conferences, meetings, and community events as needed
  • Prepare and submit required program reports within established deadlines
  • Record activities on a monthly basis in an acceptable time management format
  • May request work outside of normal business hours, evenings and weekends
  • Develop protocols, policies, procedures, and materials necessary to support the effective implementation of the Youth Healing to Wellness Court
  • Develop positive working relationships with other tribal local service providers to assist with program development
  • Meet regularly with the Court Administration to report on program activities and plans
  • Assist other programs to coordinate activities for at-risk youth in Southeast Alaska communities
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Cultural sensitivity to Alaska Natives in general, and Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian, in particular
  • Ability to develop and write clear reports, both technical and non-technical
  • Excellent prioritization and time management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills – written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of justice system
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with youth with alcohol or substance abuse issues
  • Working knowledge of resources used to address issues specific to at-risk youth


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Associates Degree in related field
  • Two years’ experience working with at-risk youth


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

  • Five years’ experience working with at-risk populations



The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.  Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
