PURPOSE

The Cultural Heritage & Education Program Coordinator will be responsible for the coordination and implementation of cultural and educational opportunities. The incumbent will assist in grant writing, administration, and reporting. 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports To: Cultural Heritage & Education Director

Supervises: Up to 4 FTE

Liaison To: Internal, Regional, State, and Local Partners

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Plan, organize, and coordinate cultural program services, events, and activities. Serve as primary resource for tribal citizens and staff

• Coordinate and collaborate with Tlingit & Haida department staff and external partners to provide cultural programming 

• Assess and evaluate cultural program and activities 

• Promote and market, in collaboration with Communications, opportunities for cultural programming

• Participate in events, meetings, activities relevant to cultural and educational programming

• Create and maintain partnerships with private and public sector contacts at the community level for cultural and educational programming 

• Assist the Program Manager/Director in developing and updating program policies and procedures

• Monitor component budget and provide financial reports as requested by Program Manager/Director

• Compile statistical and narrative reports in a timely manner

• Assist the Program Manager/Director in writing, preparing, and submitting grant applications for the program.   May be responsible for preparing and submitting grants for component/specialty area

• May supervise up to four full time employees including hiring, monitoring, coaching, staff development, evaluations, dispute resolution, progressive discipline, and if necessary, termination

• Will develop and maintain accurate, complete and confidential records

• Other duties as assigned

NECESSARY SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent computer skills

• Ability to analyze and interpret complex information from multiple sources

• Ability to manage priorities in a changing environment with limited information

• Ability to defuse emotionally charge situations in a respectful manner

• Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records

• Familiarity with Tlingit, Haida, and Tsimshian cultures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education, experience, skills)

• AA Degree in closely related field

• Two years related experience 

• Two years supervision experience

• Valid Driver’s License

Substitution for Associates: 

High School Diploma and; 

Four years related experience 

UNUSUAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OR RESTRICTIONS

The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting and is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 40 lbs.  Travel on small aircraft or ferry may be required.
